Education
Undergraduate degree in psychology from CU Boulder, master’s in counseling psychology from Naropa University.
Professional Experience
I worked for Child Welfare of Boulder County for almost twenty years, first as a social worker for abused and neglected children and their families, then as a supervisor of a team of social workers. We worked closely and collaboratively with a variety of different therapists, attorneys, guardian ad litems, judges, probation officers, residential care facilities, and schools.
Case management was a big part of my job, and where I developed a real understanding of who could best help each client based on who they were and their unique set of needs. Over and over again, I witnessed how the right therapist would dramatically improve individual and family functioning. In other words, a good match didn’t just make a difference. It was transformative.
Personal Experience
After twenty years in this rewarding-but-very-high-stress job, I needed a break from the intensity. I knew I wanted to do something different, but I didn’t know what it was, and I began searching for therapeutic guidance to help me with my career transition. And I had a hard time finding the right therapist—I was working full time outside the home and had a child, and the time and money the effort was taking only added to my stress.
After that experience, I wished I could just call someone and say: “This is who I am, this is what I’m going through, this is what I need. What therapist do you recommend?” And that’s when the light bulb went off and I realized I could be that person.
